I really like those A4 Golfs. The automatic transmissions weren't known for
being overly robust, but the engines available were all really good (except
for the 1.8T, and depending on who you talk to about it). True, the TDI's
did have some issues with head gasket sealing, I think. But you've
obviously dealt successfully with the aftermath of the issue ;)
Good luck with finding another TDI. Have you checked out TheSamba.com?

I got a super sweet deal on a 2000 Golf TDI with a bad head. I planned to
use it for work as I'm traveling all over the region.
My wife decided she liked it so instead of getting 38 Diesel MPG I'm still
getting 18MPG in my Prerunner.
She drives less than 5 miles to work. I've driven 1200 in the last three
days.
OTOH, if she likes it I'm happy for her. Now I can search for another TDI
for myself.
