This sheds a little more light, apparently Butch Gilbert originally believed
it to be the #53 car but subsequent evidence now indicates it is the #54

What's your source for that info?B  Not disagreeing with you, but the Fantasy
Junction website says it was the #53 car that was destroyed while towing.B 
Meanwhile the engine # on the FJ car is XSP -1729-7B 


If you enlarge the Heritage Trust certificate in the FJ ad you will see the
following


"We think this car was sold on a personal export basis, possibly intended for
the USA via Donald Healey, but we have no indication it wasB  originally a
factory competition car"


I don't think that's dispositive though as Abingdon was unlikely to have any
idea of what one of the cars delivered to the Cape was purposed for.

the an5 -8145/ bae 7324 was built 11/24/58 and sent to DHM on 11/26/58..sent
to the US on 2/23/59..as one of the 4 cars prepped for Sebring 59 anong with a
couple of other team cars. It ran as #53 driven by Ed Leavens and "Doc"
Kunz...it was a DNF due to a blown gearbox. originally had eng # 1156-7 was
replaced with XSP1757-7..this car was restored by Butch Gilbert...


#54 was destroyed while towing..it was raced by Ron Hampton


#55 is still owned by Herschel Silverstone
