There is a significant market for the 3.77 pumpkin for Spridgeters trying
to reduce the rpm at highway cruising speeds (yes, a 5-speed is more
effective at this) as well as replacements for whiny and broken diffs. The
3.90's10-tooth pinion gear is more rugged than the 3.77's 9-tooth pinion.
The 3.77 was only used for the last two years of production, while the 3.90
ran for about ten years, so it is usually easier to find a decent 3.90.
