Two suggestions: 

 1.  Disconnect the the heater during the summer and only use the 
     higher pressure cap then.

 2.  Do what I did on the snake.  After the crappy OEM heater core 
     sprung a leak for the umpteenths time I had a new heftier core 
     made. 

Please don't tell anyone I have a non original heater core!
