Chrome Valve Covers

Anyone out there have experience with replating stock chrome valve 
covers?  I'd like to do this to preserve the stock look but both 
covers have some substantial surface rust.  If I do send them in to 
be replated, is there a trick to getting the Sunbeam Ltd plate off 
and can it be done?

Will appreciate any comments or suggestions.
