CLR contains phosphoric acid.  Acids are very good at removing
oxides because they chemically remove the oxygen from them.  Acids also
remove metals.  The reaction is fairly slow for iron but very fast
for lead (solder).  Don't even ask me about my first hand knowledge
of this fact!!
