Flash: Reutters, 31 Oct., 1997

"Archeologists have recently uncovered railway cars previously lost in a
1965 bridge collapse. They were is a chalk cave, many miles from the
bridge collapse, and appeared to have floated into the caverns. This was
a freight train, and no rolling stock or crew were never found, with the
exception of these three freight cars. On opening one of the cars, it
was found to contain a large number of old automobile shells, stacked
and still in their crates. They appeared undamaged, for all the thirty
three years of dry storage. Other cars contained various automotive
parts, including axles, engines, and the like. There appeared to be
about 100 body shells, and components assigned to be consigned to
"Stanley Motors", Johannesburg South Africa, and were to be delivered to
a "National Motor Assemblies" plant in Natalspruit, S.A. The destination
is now a cleared field, and there is no record of the whereabouts of the
now defunct Stanley Motors principals. A cursory look at these body
shells revealed serial numbers "B9480098", "B9480120", etc. The shipping
company, a "Rootes Group", is also a defunct organization. Since both
the shipper and consignee are no longer in business, there is no
apparent interest in these candidates for metals reclamation facilities.
Faxed inquires were received from a purported American metals recycler,
Carroll Shelby, for re-cycling of these now valuless parts.
Unfortunately, his address was lost in transmission. If anyone has
knowledge of such a person, the South African Railway Commission,
Salvage Department, would appreciate the information."
