Try a separate ground wire from the Tach.
 Also the Tach in my TIGER would not work when the mounting screws were
tightened up. The ground inside of the Tach is very poor in design as the
edges of a hole in a thin copper plate must make contact with the screw
that the ground wire attaches to. The fix is to add an internal ground wire
direct from the copper plate to the outside of the Tach
