Well, after a fair # of posts about why my Thermo-Tec-wrapped CAT headers
were smoking, I got under the car last night, killing time until the
replacement seals for my brakes arrive.

No fluid was dripping onto the wrap; the clutch slave & master cylinders
were dry, as were the brakes (this is on the left side). Nor was oil coming
off the engine.

I started probing about in the area were the 4 individual pipes merged into
the collector, and pulled out-- an oak leaf. Extra-crispy. Apparently I
scooped it up somewhere (likely my own driveway, out yard is heavily
wooded) and fried it, causing the smoke. The shape of the collector, and
its orientation, makes this happening, and recurring, a distinct
possibility.

Now, I figure the next step is to fashion some kind of hi-temp mesh guard
to affix to the headers to keep debris out; any ideas on sourcing the
materials other than NASA?
