Parking brake release button/spring

Greeting to the list,
I am wondering if anyone has had their parking brake handle apart
lately? The spring that pushes the release button on mine has come loose
and slid down the shaft that connects to the dog (part that engages the
gear teeth stops). There appears to be a curved washer just below the
spring that has come loose from somewhere. Does anyone know what the
capture mechanism is, and how to reattach it?
