Larry,
I would say go with the workshop manual settings, and then make sure that the
timing advances to 34 degrees BTDC at about 2500 RPM. If it doesn't, something
is wrong with your distributor's advance mechanism. I'm running a Mallory
Unilite distributor so I don't have to dwell on the past (oops, that slipped
out. Sorry).
