Well, we have them in Europe too.
Yesterday was the annual British Classic Car Day in Morges, on the shore
of Lake Geneva near Lausanne.
Following last year's 600 or so cars, the organisers reckon there were
close to 850 yesterday. Absolute chaos for anyone wanting to go
shopping in Morges .... The parking was alongside the lake for a
distance of about two miles.
Needless to say, there were loads of boring Minis, MGs, Triumphs and
AHs. A scattering of various other makes - Lotus, Rolls, Rover, Land
Rover (including my 1998 Defender), Austin, etc.
Lord Rootes was represented by one Humber Super Snipe, one Hillman Minx,
about four Alpines (including a questionable black Series IV with 5-bolt
wheels and very rough welding around their hubs) and four Tigers (Lukas
Waldis, Roland Flueler and Heinz Scholl) - including mine. Two came
from the Zurich area, and the other near Geneva. One Series V Alpine
was driven by Walter Huber, President of the Swiss Sunbeam Tiger Owners
Club, who also has a Harrington Alpine and a Tiger.
One Tiger had to return to Zurich early. Having sent the other half
home with the Land Rover, the other two Tigers plus myself and the
Series V Alpine, set off for a run in the hills - windy roads and a few
showers (which didn't affect our open top philosophy). Back to our
place for a few glasses of local white, and a meal in the evening.
Great day out for all.
