My opinion, for what it’s worth.
I have used the ”Dial-Back” timing lights for years. They are
very simple to operate. At any rpm, just turn the knob until
the TDC mark (the only one you have, apparently) lines up with
the pointer. This presumes, of course, that TDC mark is really
TDC, and the pointer is in the right place. A test of #1
cylinder with a piece of wire should do.
At this point you read the indicator (many different types
depending on cost). This could vary from a point on a knob,
and a scale around it to an electronic digital readout, or a meter.
As to the brand, when your paying $100, or more, you ought to
get a known brand with advanced features, like reading dwell
(if you still have points to adjust). Get a name brand. You’ll
need it when it breaks down the line, and you want it repaired.
