There is a world of difference between someone who wants to know his
range, which is easily done with a trip odometer between fills, and
someone obsessed with the COST of gasoline, as a portion of his overall
spending.

The reduction in the RANGE on a full tank of gas, is easy to observe and
does not reflect on an obsession with the additional COST of gasoline.

Thus, while enof (the Caps Lock broke) is surely wise to know his range
and whether it is degrading to indicate a mechanical problem, by always
filling up and resetting the trip odometer, this is NOT obsession with
the extra cost of gas over a year's time.

So, enof, you are not wrong to observe these things (although your road
mileage may differ greatly from your town mileage). That is why the Good
Lord Lucas invented gasoline gauges.

The ENTIRE issue is the COST of increasing gas prices on the cost of
owning and operating a properly running car is in the noise level.
