Paul,
1) The service is up.
2) Your on the right initial trouble shooting track, but don't ignore
the wires.
If you are still running points, condenser, rotor, etc., you might
consider the inexpensive and easy to install Pertronic's Ignitor.
Sunbeam Specialties had a reasonable price, but they are available all
over. Runs great.
