Stewart-Warner Tach

I am having trouble with a mid--60's  Stewart-warner tach on my Sunbeam.
This was a LAT option.  Does anybody have experience with these SW gauges?
This has been sitting forever - 32 years.

Basically, it isn't doing anything.  I have checked connections but there
is a device under the dash (about 3.5" dia. x 3" tall) which the tach does
connect to.

Everything looks in order.

Please write back off line if you are familiar with the SW gauges.
