In my relentless search for more horsepower, I'm going to be changing
out my mufflers in the near future. I've got 2" pipes but 1 3/4 (at
most) mufflers left over from the previous owner. I'm debating Magnaflow
vs Flowmaster or other recommended brands. The exhaust shop I used
before to install the pipes likes Magnaflow better because they're
cheaper, flow as well (he says) and are not as loud but still give a
deep down rumble sound at idle and acceleration (cool!!). I do want the
car to be a bit louder and definitely flow better than now. Any current
suggestions from the list? Also, with my 2" pipes, should I get 2"
mufflers or 2 1/4" mufflers? I've heard both ideas.

The muffler shop repaired a leak I discovered where one of the mufflers
meets the pipe which is what got me going in this direction. I'm still
fighting my exhaust fumes in the passenger compartment problem (as soon
as I roll a window down partially at almost any speed, I get gassed).
Both windows open all the way usually get me pretty fresh air, but
rolling up either window even partially means fume city. I do notice
that the rear bumper gets all kinds of "smudge" from the tail pipes that
I have to constantly clean off (kind of whitish color). The muffle shop
guy says what may be part of the reason for my excess fumes could be the
mufflers are old (they are...probably 10 years plus) and they may be
clogged up with carbon, etc., causing 1. restricted exhaust flow, and 2.
smellier exhaust. The restricted part I can believe but I didn't think
mufflers would have any effect on exhaust smell. What do you all think?
