Guys,

The story I get, and see, is that the yoke on the speedo holds the 
bearing that spins with the inner cable core.

If the cable core is too long (meaning the swaged collar on the cable is 
pressing on the bearing, not necessarily the cable wire itself), it will 
kill the bearing in short order.
