Here's a bit of a different take. An uncle of mine in refrigeration once
informed me that he ran propane (YES PROPANE) in all his vehicle air
conditioning systems. I thought he was pulling my leg. When pressed, he
insisted, and a cousin confirmed. I still think its crazy, and wouldn't want
to drive around in that bomb anyway.

Nevertheless, I later read that most of the R12 on our market is from Mexico,
and most of it is tainted. Indeed, the article stated that over 50% of the
R-12 on the market was either straight up "propane" or tainted with large
amounts of "propane." Curious. That means, if true, that thousands of
recently charged cars are running around with propane in their air conditioning
systems. In a strange way that validates my uncle's statements.

Further on the propane, did you ever take note that the reason for switching
from 12 to 134 was to save the ozone layer. Have any of you ever seen what
happens to died R 12 when its released from a system. It dives right to the
ground. How is it that this stuff is contaminating the stratosphere?

I had also heard (complete rumor) that the R 12 prohibition arose just as
DuPont's patent ran out, and guess who had the patent on R 134. Curious, huh?

Any thoughts?
