Steve, All this discussion on water pumps and hubs got me thinking why
Rootes used a 1" fan hub. I'm not sure Ford/Rootes just reversed the hub
on a standard 260/289 water pump. The Tiger hub is part number
B9ME-8553-A (by the part number it was originally made for a 1959
Mercury). The "Standard" Ford hub used on 1959 to 1970 Fords was part
number B9AE-8553-A (by the part number originally used on 1959 Galaxie).
I looked in my 1959 and newer Ford parts book and they show the
B9AE-8553-A "Galaxie" hub was used on various 1959 to 1970 Fords,
Falcons, T-Birds, Mustangs, etc with 221, 260, 289, 352, 390, 406, 427,
engines. The B9ME-8553-A "Tiger" hub was only used on the 1960 T-Bird
with a 430 engine, and nothing else (could also be used on "Ford
industrial" engines, but I don't have a book for these).

The dimensions shown are: 2.56" O.D.- .74" depth for the Tiger
B9ME-8553-A hub and 2.54" O.D.- .74" depth for the standard B9AE-8553-A
hub.

Why did Rootes use this B9ME-8553-A oddball hub? Did Ford see a chance
to get rid of old stock on the Rootes order? Why not just use a standard
hub and fan?
I guess we will never know. David Franchi
