I am going insane (yet again) in my search for red rubber grease. The guy
(make that idiot) at Land Rover said to just use moly grease. Volvo "said "
they had it, at $27.00 a tube (hum..., and Moss Motors wanted $1.95)! I just
refuse to be ripped off.
So, I gave up trying to find it locally ( 2hr's wasted) and decided I would
order a tube (make that two tubes, just in case one ruptured in shipping) at
$1.95 ea. from Moss Motors in Goleta. After spending 15 minutes filling in all
the "required" information I was informed that the two tubes combined at $3.90
was below the $10 minimum order! Just on principle I refuse to order six times
more of an item I need just to get it.
I can understand if this was some obscure body trim part for a 40 year old
car. However, this is a consumable item used on MANY British (and a few other)
cars, yet it is as hard to find or (as able to be purchased) as costly as
precious metals. Neither of the two promenent Sunbeam parts suppliers offer
it. If you have a competent import auto store near you, you don't know how
fortunate you are. What kills me is I'm 45 mile out of L.A. in a city of
125,000 and yet I live in the "Black Hole" of finding anything automotive.
I've been on this list now for 3-1/2 years and it seems this guy has one
problem, and that guy has another but I seem to have them ALL. And they are
stupid petty things like $2.00 narrow hose clamps for the steering rack or red
rubber grease! Things that SHOULD be readily found, yet I drive hundreds of
miles and spend days to procure this stuff. Sorry to be Witt the Whiner, but
it is getting to the point where I've had enough.
