Just how warm/hot should the wire out of my one wire alternator get?

I'm re-installing my Tiger A/C after changing a few things and got
around to re-wiring today. I did blow a few 35 amp fuses I had in-line
from the 12 volt power source to the AC. Melted those things real good!
I finally figured out that one of my AV control switches was shorting
out under the dash, now solved. I've also been told that I need to up
the amperage of my in line AC fuse to 45 or 50 amps, as turning on the
AC and condensor fans gives a pretty good jolt. Is there any negative
potential to having a fuse in a line coming from the fuse block to the
ACof a higher amp. rating the the 35 amp standard Sunbeam fuses?

Which brings me to the hot alternator wire. My improved AC evaporator
(interior of the car) fan blows like a hurricane. It obviously draws a
lot of amps. The alternator is up to the job, but would it working
harder heat up its output wire considerably? I've never stood there
holding the alternator wire with the car running before, so for all I
know it getting pretty hot may just be normal operation for it.

Thanks!
Steve Sage
