Oil pressure line

An engine fire burned my oil pressure line in two a couple of years ago and 
I'm
finally getting around to replacing it with a new one from Rick (S.S.).   It 
looks
like I'm going to need to pull the steering column to access the rear of the 
oil
pressure guage. Does anyone know if that oil pressure line can be attached 
without
the steering column pull? Any short cut suggestions appreciated......
