Hi Steve,
To hotwire the ignition, you just need to provide a bypass connection
between the 12V going into the switch (the brown wire), and the ignition
circuit that is connected when you turn the switch to the 'on' position (the
white wire). The thing is that you want to do it in such a way that you can
definitely count out any connection issues - alligator clips on a jumper
wire can do the job, but they're hard to hold in position and it would be
easy to short the 12V to the starter connection while trying to drive the
car. You can make up a 'Y' harness that consists of a piece of 12 gauge
wire, with two male and one female spade connectors on it. First make sure
that you know how the switch is wired, then disconnect the brown and white
wires from the switch. Put the female connector from your jumper wire back
on the place that the brown wire came from, then connect the two male
connections to the brown and white wires. Now your ignition is 'hot' and you
can still start the car with the key. To stop the engine you need to pull
the white wire off of the jumper cable.

Good luck,
Theo
