Several states use to register vehicles in the year they sold (they may
still do so, I just don't know of any current practices like that). It
was quite possible for a car late in the production run to be
registered a year or two later. I've heard quite a few stories of brand
new (now very desireable) muscle cars sitting on lots unsold for a year
or two before being unloaded, especially in the early 70's. My Tiger
has a '64 build date, but is registered as a '65.
