And that my point.  Coatings and Imron type paints may
look nice but they hide what's underneath.  Its a crack
that begins months after the finish that is the problem.
The cross member article on TigersUnited shows where to
look for cracks.  But powder coating may cover this up.

Perhaps the best thing to do for any part that is in
question is to chemically clean it (dipping, etc) and
then check it.  Finish the part as desired keeping in
mind that the next time you want to check the part,
you should remove the finish.  If as lister say powder
coating is a pain to renove, maybe that's not a good
choice for an A-arm or cross member.  Frames, inner
fenders, fan shrouds are great to powder coat.

Perhaps the thing to do is for someone to make a list
of components and the desired finish.
