I think the bottom line is to...as always...follow the money. Where there  
were decent resources allocated, the Tiger did just fine, as in the example  of 
Rootes spending the motorsports budget on rallying and winning significant  
events. Shelby had the backing of huge, Ford "Total Performance" dollars and  
used those resources to great advantage in U.S. and FIA road racing. 
 
Success is a relative term, not absolute, in this instance. If you want to  
be specific, the Tiger wasn't a road racing champion, which has nothing to do  
with "success", IMHO.
