All,

In the recent thread, this needs to be corrected:

My comments:
"...Your question regarding the "frontal measurement" is a good one. If we
have a 7" rim, for example, and the backspace is 4.5", then the "frontal" is
2.5"
(4.5+2.5=7)..."

Bob Palmer's corrections:
"...Seven inch rims aren't seven inches wide. I just measured my nominal
7.5"x15" rims (Centerlines) and they are 8.25" wide measured outer lip to
outer lip; that is, the lips are 3/8" wide. That's why I said in my earlier
post 'There is some uncertainty in translating rear spacing to offset
because of wheel lip width (0.5"??).' OK, so in my particular case it's
3/8", not 1/2". One way or the other though, to get rear (or front) spacing,
you have to actually measure it. Using offset and nominal width doesn't do
it...."

Bob is absolutely right. A 7.5" wheel is more than 7.5" wide. The 7.5'
measurement is tire mounting surface to mounting surface and does not consider
the rim lip. ( & I knew that ! &$%#^* ! )

Measurements need to be made before any assumptions can be made.

Sorry for any mis-information I presented.

Darrell
