Took everyone's advice. First, took out the fuse box out of the car  
and cleaned all the connections. The replaced the connectors after  
tightening them. Also checked the backs of the gauges. Retightened  
the grounds. Finally, checked the ignition and cleaned the contacts  
and tighted the connectors as well.

Not sure which one thing was the culprit, but no problems since.  
Knock on wood.
