Don
The grade fuel you run in any engine depends on the engine you have
in the car.
A stock 260 or 289 in the Tigers should run very well with regular gas.
The stock engine in the Tigers were low compression base line Ford engines.
If the engine has higher than stock compression you will need to run a
higher grade fuel. If everything is working correctly in the engine and
the engine pings with your driving style then you need more octane.

As I recall the use of lead substitute is not necessary as long as
you are not running the engine constantly in the 6000 rpm range. If you
are running the engine in that range then you need to know who built the
engine and what kind of parts were installed and hardened exhaust valve
seats are required.

I stopped using lead substitute because it was fouling the plugs too
often. I just use regular gas in my stock 260 Tiger. For the most part
higher octane does little for a stock engine; it does help the engine run a
little cooler because it can absorb more heat but it cost more for that
privilege.

Don't worry about rookie questions; the list is here to help and we
are all here to learn.

Greetings all,

Pardon another 'rookie question' (with many more to follow...) but what type
of fuel do you run in your Tigers? Sorry, I can't remember when unleaded
fuels started. Does the engine respond better to higher octane?

(I did check the on-line manual from the TigersUnited web site before
bothering the group, but didn't find it)
