When I checked my mail today, it said the following was sent, but as I never
received a copy, I'm guessing it was not. If any of you get this as a double
post, I appologize.
The provenance on the following is right from the horse's mouth. That is, I am
the second owner of B382000975, and the original owner is a woman now in her
seventies that bought the car new in 1966 in Van Nuys and made many visits to
wherever it was that Richard Wheatley was working with Tigers. When I got the
car it had the LAT hood as installed origianally and still in the original gel
coat. Norm has agreed that this does appear an original still in gel coat
through pictures and discription as well.
Per the owner, this was the last original hood in stock when installed and was
installed under Dick Wheatley.
You don't need pictures. The correct installation (assuming that Wheatley
provided the most correct installation) is as follows. Generic hood pins cut
attached to a narrow "V" cut and folded under in the cowl. And I mean generic.
I replaced the originals, including the finishers on the top, and found
undistinguishable pins on the generic hi-po shelf at the local Pep Boys. The
double washer connector was so close that I used the originals on the
replacement pins. They looked identicle.
The front of the hood is connected with the original bolts for the original
hood. The cut in the hood for the pins was nothing but a hole drilled through
both levels of the hood. The placement appears likely to be a placement
symetrical to the first pin placement without any true regard to the exact
proper location. Pointedly, I am led to believe this due to a false start on
the (presumed) second "V" cut in the cowl.
Anything and everythng for the original hood latch down was kept intact on the
car side, and missing entirely on the hood side. I understand that the buyer
specifically requested that the bonnet release stay in place, though, because
the installer was going to remove this. She wanted the ability to reinstall
her original hood.

P.S. On SL's latest post. While I realize that the set-up was in place for a
carryover of the original latch mechinism, if the guy who originated the part
was installing them with pins, I would think this would be the accepted
installation.
