Doing it right would involve opening the case, and isolating every place
where the positive supply touched the case. Connect a separate power
lead to those spots, hook the negative to the chassis and you're good to
go. Check for a short circuit between the positive and negative
connections before you apply power...
The relative difficulty of doing this would depend greatly on the way
that the radio was constructed, so I can't make any comments more
specific than that.
