Here is a idea for you: For your existing plastic wheel consider a specialty
steering wheel restorer. They could remove the plastic and replace with
mahogany wood and black epoxy to duplicate the wooden wheel you want. It might
take some time to complete the project so you would have to install a cheap
substitute/interim wheel such as one from Grant. I found the Lempert Wheels
web site that offers such a restoration service. 843 856-7542
