If this is recent event then adjusting will do no good. If it sounds like
just one cylinder then you may have a collapsed lifter, broken rocker or
pushrod, or broken valve spring. If all the lifters are rattling then I
would suspect low oil pressure...unless you over-revved the shit out of it,
then there may be systematic damage.

In any case you want to preload the lifter about 0.025" or so, which is
around 1/2 or 3/4 of a turn of the nut once the slack is taken out. On
really steeply ramped cams like the CompCams Extreme Energy I add just a
smidgen more preload.
