Rubber for a 79 Spit

I am looking for suggestions and words of wisdom on tires for
my Spit.  I am not necessarily looking for a tire that will last
forever.
I do occasionally get caught in the rain.  Portions of my every day
drive
bump up into the 70 mph range.  I like to give it a 'little' throttle in
the 
corners!
