The reason I ask is because it suddenly stopped working last week during
my long drive back from the beach.  Other than a simple electrical short
(please, God ...), what else is usually the cause of OD failure, and
what's the fix?

I believe (and so does Bill Piggot) that the change occured at the begining
of the 73 model year.  To be sure check to see what transmission mount you
have.  If it is the single large rectangular one then you must use the
A-type.  If you have the style with two round mounts you can use either
(with the adaptor bracket.)

If the OD suddenly quits it is most likely an elecrical problem.  Check the
wiring, the relay (if fitted) and the cutout switches on top of the
transmission.
