A very good point Andy.  In that case, the number would probably have been
pre-1953, when the reversal you described first started to occur.  Maybe it
was a late 40s, early 50s plate and arrived in the USA on an MG?

  Mike, sounds reasonable to me. But if "LH" was a Greater London series, I'd
suspect that they might have run out of three-letter/three-number combinations
some time in the 1950s and reversed them; in other words, later (but still
pre-1963) plates from that office more likely would have read 635 TLH. But
chances are one of our UK list members will know for sure?
