Hi Kendall,
I really enjoyed driving my Stag through the valley when I lived there.

Check in the drivers footwell for fluid leaking. Some times it leaks back
through the seal and down the actuating shaft and drip all over the carpet.

As to why the early failure, could be inferior quality rubber in the rebuild
kit.
