Hi Dave,

Egil K in the UK has a very good tuning page for the Triumph 6 cylinder
motor. As I understand it (I've never done it myself but local racers here
have), the 2.5 motor can be reliably bored out to 2.7 litres using mazda
323/ford laser pistons. I know this is a common mod for the local race guys
here with the triumph saloons.

I guess it depends what you want to use the engine for. There are two (well
three actually) versions of the same motor. The GT6 and Triumph 2000 used a
two litre version and the 2500PI,TC,S and TR5/250/6 used a 2.5 litre
version. There was also a 1600cc version used in the early Vitesse's but
these are rare and cannot be bored out.

As I understand it, the 2 litre is a better race motor as it will rev out
to around 8500 RPM (according to a local GT6 nut here). The keen race guys
here get well over 200 hp from this motor in track form. However, these
motors are hardly drivable on the street!

General wisdom suggests the redline for the 2.5 is around 6000 unless major
crankshaft work is done (i.e. replace it) due to resonance at around 6200 RPM.

I'm not sure if the following link still works - it did the other week but
their server may be down just now...

A few of the guys on the list have supercharged their '6s with good
results. Beyond that there are always the V8 conversions. Check out Dan M's
great page http://members.aol.com/danmas/

Hope this helps

Cheers
Bernard
