Before you start messing with custom needle profiles, make sure your
current needles and jets are in good shape.  My car was running very
rich a few years ago, and it turned out that the holes in the jets had
become elongated, therefore allowing a richer mixture to get dumped
into the engine.  Replace your jets and needles with stock pieces, and
then see how the car runs.
