Hooking up the wire to the slip ring is essential. The power actually comes
through the horns first then to the slip ring through that wire. When you
push your horn you are creating a ground to complete the circuit. The
steering column housing is isolated from the shaft in the center. The horn
button connects the two and the current flows to the ground wire at the
Steering rack. Cute, hunh.
