I think bead blasting would be the better way to go. I think it would give
a nice polished but dull (ok it's hard to describe) finish.

By the way. Once you remove the old dash support cover, a very nice cast
aluminum piece is revealed. I've seen polished trailing arms. Wonder if
anybody has polished up a dash support.
