that's a very early 73 american spec car, built in late 1972, perhaps
december.  CF 1U was built on September 11 1972; CF 4029U was built on Jan
2, 1973, according to Piggott's Origianl Triumph Tr.

PI cars were CP and CR prefix.

The PI plate is likely wrong.  I would guess a DPO found the plate and put
it on, or mistakenly ordered it or replaced the original at some point.  has
the car been repainted?  how far back can you document the car?
