Adam and Rick O.,
Keep in mind that the brake line for the right front brake travels across the
frame in front of the engine and of course, brake fluid is semi clear and
slippery. If you havent changed any of the fluids to this point it is more
likely to be brake fluid than motor oil or coolant since motor oil and coolant
shouldnt show up as clear. Just to be safe, trace and clean the brake lines
and see if you get any new flow or wetness from them. The brake MC level
should be going down if you are losing fluid. It would be wise to check the
brake system out well before driving the car. Rick's suggestion of cleaning
the engine is a very good suggestion though.
As to rust, the first thing you want to do is to determine the extent of the
rust. Often rust can easily be mistaken for being surface rust when it goes
much deeper. I used some NAPA products to take care of my surface rust but
that was only last summer so I am not sure as to the longevity. However, after
I completed the work it looked nice and seemed to have stopped the rust. The
products I used were a spray can of NAPA rust converter. (Sorry, dont have a
part number or specific name but seem to remember there was only one product
they sold that matches my description) And the paint I used was a semi-flat
black engine paint. It was what I had on hand and I liked the idea of it
resisting high temps since I sprayed it on all parts of the frame including the
parts close to the exhaust. But I know NAPA sells a "chassis Black" paint. I
didnt do a frame off resto and while I would have preferred to "do it right" I
was more concerned with halting the rust progress until I could do it properly
at a future date.
Please let the list know what you find to be the origin of the leak.
Cheers,
Aaron
