LRO means: L=Left Hand Drive, R= Roadster, O=Standard. Which would not
identify Pre=production? Also the serial no. B 949.... seems very high, I
thought all SIV were B941... SV were B395...
Any help??

Here's one for all you hard core Alpine scrutinizers out there. Rich
wrote to me about his Alpine...I suspect that it is a Pre-Production
model, hence the PP in the serial number. Anyone else out there ever
heard of anything like this? I don't know of any documentation to prove
that this car existed, but it obviously does!
Below is a copy of his e-mail to me.

Ian,

I've been trying to post a question on the message board, but it's not
showing up. Is my computer acting up again? I swear sometimes I think
Lucas
built it.

Anyway, my question is in regards to my Alpine's unusual Data tag #,
maybe
you have some ideas... here's what I tried posting:

"I have an Alpine with an unusual Data Tag/ Engine #. Chassis: B94999978
PP
GT OD, engine: B94999978 PP GT OD LRO. 1725cc engine, early SV body with

following exception: instead of the "SUNBEAM" letters on the trunk,
there's
an "Alpine" script mounted at a 45 degree angle to the right of the
license
plate.
The original owner bought the car in England (Reg. GDU 213D) and knowing
he
was moving to the states, ordered it with LHD. My dad bought the car in
1974 from the original owner who had kept it as stock as the day he took

delivery. The car has always been registered in the U.S. as a 1966.
Mistitled perhaps?
Anyone know why the car could have neither a true Series IV or V VIN #
and
what the "PP" might stand for? I'd like to place it in the Registy, but
don't know where to put it."

Ian, my hope is that you or someone you know might be able to solve this

34+ year mystery.

Thanks,

Rich Vose
