Hi all,
I am new in the Alpine block just got a 1960 SI with a Nissan 1:8L engine.
Live in Mexico City, not many Alpines around here. The chassis number is
9090037 WRO; production date 20-8-60. And it has a production number 716 60
RM which must be a local number. This car was assembled in a Mexican Hillman
plant that was in the state of Puebla, where VW has their plant now, about
80 mi from Mexico City. Apparently they imported CKD kits. Although looking
through the production data there are no SI CKD mentioned. Only SII. All the
detail is to try and clarify or confuse the issue because the chassis number
seems a little strange, to me anyway. Also it is supposed to be a RHD
According to the suffix "R" but it4s a LHD. Does anybody have detailed
production history to trace back and see when it was produced in the UK?
Another question I have is regarding an Alpine engine with tranny that I am
being offered. It has a number that also doesn4t jive with the expected
numbers; 1980628 dated 14-12-59 and it has an H on the opposite side of the
engine. According to the date is should be an SI? But the number doesn4t
correspond to those listed. What compression readings should this type of
engine,in good condition, produce?
Appreciate any help on these issue.
Rodolfo
