Hi Jan,
I think I intuitively went into the water slow, and kept the revs up in
second gear. As I gained some speed, the water was high enough to splash
over the hood. I was worried all the way through! I think it also helped to
have a transistorized ignition!

reconnect
them to the distributor, then pull the glove over the distributor....

water proof distributor for about $1.00!
When going into deep puddles-DON'T race into them, this splashes water up
high, better get into first or second with the engine wound up and go
through
SLOWLY, making as little splash as you can. You need the engine revs to
keep
water out of the exhaust pipe!!! Take this from an old Army officer who
has
forded many a creek in waste deep water.
