Sometimes the spark gets waylayed inside the distributer cap.  Pull the coil
wire out of the dist cap and test the spark coming out of the coil.  Coils
are NOT all or nothing things.  I have seen engines that would idle and run
at moderate RPM but could not move the car  due to a bad coil.
