Hi, John.
We are running the "fixed layshaft" for first gear, as this doesn't break like
the removeable gears that are small enough to be any good for first. So, we
have (and I am getting this from memory):
13:38 for first
15:36 for second
17:34 for third
19:32 for fourth
Now, if these ratios are just stupid, its because I am writing this WITHOUT my
notes, and I haven't had to change gears for awhile.
With the 10:31 rearend, you should get about 100mph top speed, which is plenty,
even at Oscoda ;-)
If you find yourself running courses where you really need "second-and-a-half"
gear, you may want to play with the splits, but this is pretty good for me.
I'm new to FFord's, having recently purchased a Swift
DB-1. Would any of you care to share their thoughts on
gearing with a rank novice? The car came with a 10/31
ring and pinion, and I'd prefer not to have to change that
just yet.
