gas mileage

Last night I wrote that my car had lots of fuel left over after each day of 
the event.  I think I realized how that happened.  My co-driver, in 
effectively his first event of the year, was short shifting everywhere 
(except that one time when he missed a shift ...).  The telltale was always 
very low when he returned from a run.
